Innovative survey techniques to detect small shallow archeological finds over large areas

{{item.title}}

Innovation Global Power Generation launched the challenge “Innovative survey techniques to detect small shallow archeological finds over large areas” in cooperation with E&C (Engineering and Construction), to find innovative solutions to automatically detect small archaeological finds in large areas, improving archaeological surveys during the preliminary phases of development projects while preserving historical and cultural heritage.

Two interesting solutions were selected: a Chilean Academic Institute and a French startup provided similar anomaly detection techniques, based on AI algorithms, able to identify finds in photos taken with drones. The methodology had already been tested in an archeological area by the Chilean University that therefore offered an already trained algorithm that could therefore be rapidly adopted.

The two solutions are currently being tested within an Innovation project, in order to optimize them for a possible adoption on a global scale.
