Overview

The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) are standard verifications on network components and material referred to ISO standards to verify compliance and contract technical specification for purchased materials and before the shipment by the supplier. Such activities are executed at supplier production plant and the output is the quality approval of components and materials for material delivery at Enel’s network plants. Actually, FAT are executed by Enel inspectors and qualified third-parties in presence at supplier production plant and recently we are experimenting the utilization of Smart Glasses. This new technology permits to execute remotely the factory acceptance test, however there are some technology constraints during the use to be improved.

INFO: expiration date extended until 15th May 2020.

Description

The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) are standard verifications on network components and material referred to ISO standards.

FAT are an instrument to verify compliance with international standards and contract technical specification for purchased materials and before the shipment by the supplier. This new technology permits to execute remotely the factory acceptance test.

We are facing some issues regarding technological and legal constraints which impacted on large scale utilization:

  • Low battery duration and heating - through the introduction of the second generation of Smart Glasses we are going to mitigate these issues.
  • Telecommunication Coverage, which limit Smart Glasses utilization to factory fully provided by proper TLC coverage
  • Some suppliers denied Smart Glasses in their factory plants claiming privacy and protection of industrial property.

The evolution of digital strategy, lean processes and geographical fragmentation of suppliers’ portfolio, needs an improvement of acceptance test execution process also remotely.

The challenge consists in finding new and/or additional tool and process by using Smart Glasses or new and complementary digital instruments to achieve our goal.

The solution must have are:

  • Guarantee Global application
  • Guarantee standard activity execution in compliance with OI 41, purchase contracts and technical specifications

The solution nice to have:

  • Maintain adequate coverage of activity reducing time and costs

This challenge provides contribution to the following sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world:

  • SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequality
